Since I can't install Media Feature Pack through the Windows Optional Features menu, I tried installing the newest version I could download from MS via but saw a message that the installer was incompatible with my version of Windows.Īfter removing Windows Media Player I rebooted, installed Windows Media Player again via Optional Features, and rebooted again. I was able to remove Windows Media Player through the Optional Features menu, but I am not presented with the option to add Media Feature Pack through that menu. I'm at the point where I'd be happy to either get HTML5 audio working again in 64-bit Firefox OR have someone explain how 32-bit FF on Windows 10 with 8 GB RAM is going to be as good or better than 64-bit FF. HTML5 audio plays fine everywhere on 32-bit FF. The real kicker is I can install 32-bit FF either in parallel with 64-bit FF or with 64-bit FF uninstalled (either way) and I have no issues. I've tried alternate audio devices (external USB sound adapter vs onboard audio) and 64-bit FF is having no luck playing HTML5 audio after all of this. I've tried removing and reinstalling my audio device. I've tried uninstalling FF 64-bit, deleting everything Mozilla from C:\Program Files and %appdata%, rebooting, then reinstalling. Media resource could not be decoded, error: Error Code: NS_ERROR_DOM_MEDIA_MEDIASINK_ERR (0x806e000b) Details: OnMediaSinkAudioError.įrom what I can tell this is a fairly generic error, or at least I haven't seen it point to anything specific that's helped me so far. If I examine the Web Console, I see an error like The same MP3 plays fine in-browser with Chrome. If I attempt to play an MP3 in FF the HTML5 player controls will appear but the time never advances, the play/pause button stays on pause when clicked, and there is no audio produced. Keeping everything the same but using Chrome I have audio. Testing 64-bit FF with Youtube, I can view any video and use the player controls etc as normal. Afterwards it started back up but later I noticed I'd lost the ability to play HTML5 audio. Yesterday Firefox was running very slow, eventually stopped responding, and I had to kill firefox.exe manually. Specifically, I'm running 78.8.0esr (64-bit) on Microsoft Windows. If this ever happens again I'll pick up where we left off.įor reasons unknown, HTML5 audio is broken in 64-bit Firefox on Windows 10 for me.
I'm at a total loss, but at least I can say thanks to everyone who offered troubleshooting options I hadn't tried yet. And that's what happened! I came back to this thread this morning, re-installed 64-bit FF for like the 10th time in the exact same way as the previous 9 times, and thought I should confirm my baseline just to be safe. BLUF EDIT - There was one possibility for this getting more puzzling than it already was: a spontaneous and inexplicable self-heal.
